#7 Perseverance

1 Samuel 17 — If you think about it, it’s pretty amazing David even made it to getting to fight Goliath, much less killing the big guy.

I mean, here he is, going along his merry way being pizza delivery boy for his brothers. (Have you ever noticed he brought grain/bread and cheese to his brothers? If that’s not pizza, I don’t know what is.)

And then, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

He leaves his pizzas behind with the supplies guy and runs to meet his brothers. Ooh ohh, a battle! He gets to see a battle!

#6 Inadequacy

There’s no doubt that Moses was a reluctant leader. He would have made a great de-motivational speaker.

God calls Moses. Moses says, “Here I am.”

And then everything Moses says and does goes downhill from there.

#5 Prayer

How do you pray for someone you love to grow in their faith?

I pray for my kids, loved ones, and others that I want to see God working in their lives. Sometimes it’s a little hard to know how exactly to pray for people to grow spiritually. Then I read this prayer Paul had for the Colossians.

#4 Compulsion

I often think of compulsion as a negative term. After all, it’s like if someone doesn’t have self-control, they go and do something. But then I realized that was acting on impulse, not compulsion. Oops.

The other day I was reading what Paul wrote when the word “compelled” jumped out at me.

#3 Selflessness

I admit it.

I’m selfish. I really like having my own way a lot of the times. So when I came across this verse, it was a bonk over the head for me.
